The leadership transition at Microsoft and key promotions as Rajesh Jha steps into retirement.

After nearly four decades at one of the world's most influential technology companies, Rajesh Jha is set to retire from his role as Executive Vice President (EVP) for Experiences + Devices. In an internal communication shared with Microsoft employees this morning, Jha announced he will transition out on July 1st and take up a new advisory position.

Succession Planning in Motion

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, has been working closely with Jha to ensure the company's continued success. The two executives have identified key leaders who are poised for greater responsibilities: Perry Clarke, Charles Lamanna, Pavan Davuluri, and Ryan Roslansky will now serve as EVP direct reports under Satya.

“I am incredibly confident in our leadership team,” said Jha in his message to employees. “Perry, Charles, Pavan, and Ryan have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication throughout their careers at Microsoft.”

New Promotions and Leadership Roles

In addition to the EVP promotions, Jeff Teper has been promoted to the role of EVP as well. Sumit Chauhan and Kirk Koenigsbauer will take on new titles: President.

“These leaders have earned their well-deserved recognition,” Jha added in his communication. “Their contributions are invaluable to Microsoft’s ongoing success.”

A Smooth Transition for the Future

To ensure a seamless transition, Jha and his leadership team will work closely over the next few months to finalize details on operating rhythms, decision ownership, and organizational structure changes necessary for FY27. The goal is to maintain momentum in key areas such as SFI (Sustainable Financial Inclusion), QEI (Quantum Engineering Initiative), and Copilot.

“Our priorities remain unchanged,” Jha stated. “Let’s keep the intensity here.”

A Legacy of Service

Jha, who has been with Microsoft since 1987, expressed gratitude for his time at the company: "Working in service to our customers over these years has truly been an incredible privilege." His retirement marks a significant chapter in both Jha’s career and Microsoft's history.
