Alexa data shows a 1,490% increase in click-throughs from AI-based searches on Trustpilot over the past year. The company aims to leverage its vast dataset for greater integration with major e-commerce platforms.

Trustpilot, long known for its consumer reviews and ratings of businesses across various industries, is now setting its sights higher. In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg News, CEO Adrian Blair revealed that the company is actively pursuing partnerships with major eCommerce giants as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform online shopping experiences.

Trustpilot's Data Goldmine

In a world where AI-driven search engines are becoming increasingly sophisticated and prevalent, Trustpilot stands out. According to Blair, the key lies in leveraging their extensive dataset of consumer reviews and feedback. "AI agents acting on behalf of consumers require vast amounts of information about businesses," he explained. "The most effective systems will rely heavily on datasets like those held by us." This is where Trustpilot sees an opportunity.

Blair further elaborated that the company aims to work closely with major eCommerce sites, integrating their data into AI-driven shopping experiences. By doing so, they hope not only to enhance user satisfaction but also to drive significant margin gains for both parties involved. "We are looking at ways to make greater use of our data," Blair stated.

AI-Driven Traffic Surge

The potential impact is already evident in the numbers. Alexa data reveals that click-throughs from AI-based searches on Trustpilot have surged by an impressive 1,490% over the past year. This staggering growth can be attributed to Google's decision to make its AI search feature default for many users.

Blair noted this trend is not just a one-off spike but part of a broader shift in consumer behavior towards more intelligent and personalized shopping experiences. "Large language models have created new channels through which our content reaches consumers," he said, highlighting the rise in exposure and referral traffic from LLM-based algorithms.

Strategic Partnerships

To capitalize on this trend, Trustpilot is actively seeking strategic partnerships with major eCommerce players. Recent developments include Amazon's partnership with OpenAI to deploy genAI systems on AWS for consumer-facing applications. This move underscores the growing importance of AI in shaping online shopping experiences.

Elsewhere, Walmart has also made significant strides by partnering with Google, allowing users to purchase goods directly within Gemini chatbot interfaces. These partnerships are indicative of a broader trend where major retailers and tech giants collaborate to enhance user experience through advanced technologies like AI and LLMs.
